Wood or Asphalt shingles are the most common type of material used in residential applications. Shingles are composed of organic or fiberglass and is coated with asphalt and granulated in a wide array of colors. Steep-slope roofs are built of individual pieces. Steep-slope roofs compose of these three primary parts:

  • Roof deck – this is the structural substrate and is usually wood such as plywood or orientd strand board
  • Underlayment- provides short term protection untill the roof is installed. It also acts as a second layer of weatherproofing
  • roof covering- this is the external watershedding material
